Top 3 events of hEAd oN Photo Festival

Head On Photo Festival is the one and only large-scale festival celebrated in Sydney that focuses purely on photography. This year it will be launched on 17th May. The opening night, free to join, will see the announcements of Head On Portrait Prize, Head On Landscape prize and Head On Momento Photobook Awards.

There are various events to get involved and gain insights of peers and below are my Top 3.

1. Head On Photo Festival Launch and Announcement of Winners –
17th May 2013 | 6 – 8pm | Turner Hall, TAFE Sydney Institute

This is an event with great networking opportunity. Many prestigious photographers and artists attend the event and there is enough time to mingle. Speeches from winners at the Award ceremony can give a lot of insights too.

2. Portfolio Review –
20th May 2013 | 10am – 4pm | TAFE Sydney Institute

As many photographers would agree, photography can make you feel lonely at times. That’s where portfolio reviews help. Head On have got great selection of reviewers and for $145 one can get 5 consultations of 20 mins. Prior bookings are essential.

3. Shahidul Alam Presentation –
20th May 2013 | 4.30 – 6pm | TAFE Sydney Institute

Alam is a very influential personality in the photography world, a Guest Curator of Brussels Biennale and have many achievements including exhibitions in MOMA and Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. He is this year’s featured photographer for Head On and is going to share his knowledge and talk about his work. It would’ve been better if the talk was after working hours, however if you can make it, there will be a lot to learn.

Apart from these, Head On also includes may workshops and of course, the Photography Exhibitions spread throughout the city. I will definitely visit as many exhibitions as I could and will share it all here.
